Here is a fantastic way to encourage students to make new friends.
ALL will be able to demonstrate different techniques used when meeting new people
MOST will be able to express five qualities which make a good friend
SOME will be able to identify why it is important to have positive interactions with others as you grow older
Act out the following scenarios asking for a student to volunteer and sit next to you, and allow students to guess what you are doing wrong.
- Ask to many Questions
- Act Shy
- No eye contact
- Sit far to close
- Talk over the top of them
- Act to Giddy / Hyper
Neighbour hood watch meeting, give out each student a character cards and ask them to exit the room and then enter the room in their new roles and write down the names of who they meet and whether they think they would make a good friend and why.
Feedback on who people though would make a good friend and the reasons why, bringing out the essential qualities of a good friend
Create an acrostic poem for friendship as a class or individually.
This PowerPoint could be used as a full lesson and includes attached activities, challenging and thoughtful questions, embedded URL links where appropriate and a variety of tasks/information for students to use to learn about the issues relating to the topic. This resource includes a starter activity a variety of tasks and then a plenary activity. It will hopefully engage all students regardless of ability.
