Why are the 2’s and 5’s easier multiplication facts for students to grasp? Because we have been skip counting by 2’s and 5’s since kindergarten!
I believe that one way to help students master their multiplication facts is to give them tools to help them master skip counting by 6, 7, 8, & 9. I have had students learn these multiples by singing them to familiar tunes and, for many students, this was the tool they needed to master their facts.
If I know my multiples, and I get stuck on 7 x 6, I can sing my 6 song to the 7th number OR sing my 7 song to the 6th number and know my answer. It’s as easy as fa-la-la!
