This version of my singing remote is a digital, interactive version. When you or a student touches or clicks on a button, it 'lights up' and tells students how to perform a song you're working on or reviewing. The 'mute' button engages students in audiating/imagining the melody or rhythm until another button is selected. Dynamics and tempo can be combined with modes of performance, e.g., singing solfa softly at a fast tempo, or clapping rhythm loudly at a slow tempo. Kids love this, and teachers do too!
Engage your students in playful, meaningful practice with a Singing Remote! The Singing Remote is a powerful technique for making singing practice educational, fun, and interactive. This is a highly effective tool for helping students develop inner hearing (audiation or the ‘mind’s ear’), in-tune singing, and rhythmic accuracy. (This is an updated version of the classic Kodaly technique, "Radio Game.") Adapt this activity to pieces you are teaching to help students explore, practice, and understand melody, rhythm, solfege, lyrics, repeating patterns within a piece (form), and expressive elements.
The Singing Remote provides reinforcement of lyrics, music skills, and concepts while evoking student focus and delight, AND it aids in memorization too!. It's also handy for filling in a few minutes of time with meaningful practice.
