Single-Point rubrics are great to use to assess student writing! Instead of having multiple levels of expectation, the single-point rubric simplifies the way to communicate expectations by only having a single column of expectations. This rubric can be used to assess informative/explanatory writing.
I have loved my experience with assessing students and giving feedback with single-point rubrics this year. It allows me to give more specific, focused feedback on the expectations set during a unit of study.
A single-point rubric can also be used by students to self-assess!
This document is an editable file, so that you can adapt it to the standards you set for your students in your unit. The current expectations are drawn from 2nd grade Common Core Standards, as well as expectations from Lucy Calkins' Units of Study in Reading.
