These 24 cards are perfect as an introduction to multiplication and division word problems for your 3rd graders or extra practice for your 4th and 5th graders.
All cards are a mixture of single-step multiplication and division problems. There is no extra information to eliminate from the problems either.
I created these cards for my 4th and 5th grade special education students who are working a grade level or two behind their peers. They work well for students just beginning to work with multiplication and division word problems or students who need extra exposure to single step problems before moving on to more complex and multi-step problems.
Cards 1- 12 are differentiated to help students break apart the word problem. Having them fill out scaffolded questions before solving the actual problem.
Cards 13-24 are single step word problems.
All problems are all open-ended (no multiple choice).
Division problems include up to 3-digit by 2-digit numbers but are mental math (for example: 120 ÷ 10)
Multiplication problems include up to 3-digit by 1-digit and 2-digit by 2-digit factors (123 x 3 and 23 x 12)
You can use this document as task cards, cutting each problem out and using the included answer recording sheet. I use this as homework for my special education students during the year- printing out one full sheet per night. You can even use them as an assessment, quick check, spiral ticket out the door, the options are endless.
