Through a lab, students will learn how the limestone layer of rock is broken down causing a sinkhole to form.
Students will construct a model, and manipulate the model to demonstrate what causes the formation of a sinkhole. (Students can manipulate the pH of the water, the amount of sand, or the amount of water)
Students will identify where the model shows erosion, physical weathering, chemical weathering, and sinkhole formation.
Students will read and look at a map to identify where sinkholes are most common.
This is a SIMPLE, yet challenging LAB with VERY EASY to find materials, that can be done very cheap for a LOT of students. I included STEP by STEP instructions, with pictures in the document on how to build your model.
