What steps can you take if your student or child is not showing typical readiness skills for toilet training, but you want to get started working on it? The answer is to use stories and visual supports to prepare for each of the little steps along the way.

This story is a simple story about learning to sit on the toilet. Each page includes a short sentence and clipart picture to show the steps to sitting on the toilet. When laminated, you can use a washable marker to write in the number for how long the child will practice sitting on the toilet (to the count of 3, 5, 10 and then more).

There are also visual sequencing strips that can be used as a visual support to outline the steps in a simple way. These could also be cut out individually and put on a ring.

This resource does not lay out all the steps to toileting, as it is meant to address the skill of "sitting on the toilet". If you need a peeing in the toilet story, you can find it here. For a pooping story, click here. If you need all things toilet training, take a look atthis more comprehensive resource that includes all of my toilet training supports.
