Use popular children's songs to review the six traits of writing!
Students start by evaluating themselves on how well they know each trait. Then, for each of the traits, they listen to a song, read along with the lyrics, and answer thoughtful questions (4-6). Answer keys are included for each set of questions; however, many of the questions require students to explain their answers, which will affect how you score their responses.
At the end, there are suggestions for a culminating project, for which you may use your standard rubric or create your own. The project choices include writing, drawing, and digital activities.
Students will need to use technology to access the songs, or you could play them for the whole class on your device.
