This Power Point presentation includes everything you'll need to teach a Six-Traits of Writing Word Choice lesson. The mini-lessons concentrate on how to "Show, Don't Tell" when writing and writing descriptive character descriptions using the mentor text Tough Boris by Mem Fox.
Included are: Partners and small group activities, activating and summarizing strategies, links to a word choice video and a read aloud of the mentor text video, examples/non-examples, word choice mini-lesson, handouts/graphic organizers, an interactive journal activity in which students write a fun character description, and a rubric for the character description.
It usually takes us a few days to get through the entire word choice lesson. I try not to rush through because my students really get into the interactive journal activity. So I allow for some extra "creative" time.
Please check out my TPT store, Arrrsome in Fifth, for more Six Traits lessons and resources. Thank you!
