I made this speedometer-style visual for supporting Size of the Problem lessons from Michelle Garcia-Winner's Social Thinking curriculum. Once my students could tell me the size of a problem, I needed a way to help them learn how to solve those problems. The Size of the Solution wheel/pie chart visual offers commonly-used solutions, color-coded to match the Size of the Problem visual.
Here's how I teach the Size of the Problem criteria:
1. Glitch: We can fix this problem ourselves, either by letting it go or by making a choice.
2. Little problem: We need someone else's assistance to fix this problem. That may mean asking for help, listening to an adult's directions, or talking to the other person involved (e.g. Telling a bully to stop).
3. Big problem: Someone is in danger. The police or fire department may become involved at this level.
I hope this helps you with your lessons on problem-solving!
