This chart or handout was designed to help students learn when to ask for help and when to use self-regulation skills to tackle issues independently. In a counseling group, therapists can review each level and have students share examples of when they have faced each kind of problem in their own lives. This can also be displayed as a poster to remind students to think before reacting when they get frustrated--works perfectly in emoji themed classrooms!
No matter how this resource is used, it will foster independence, reduce tattling, and help kids to feel prepared to handle problems. It can also be useful to talk about coping strategies to use at each level (and review emergency protocol if necessary).
