After its birth as a nation, it did not take long for the United States to increase in size. Many Americans believed in the doctrine of manifest destiny and wanted the United States to stretch from coast to coast. The worksheet’s map shows how the United States had achieved that by 1854. On the map, territories and some states are labeled with the year they were acquired.
This worksheet is a great resource to build students’ skill in map reading. Not only will students analyze the map, but they’ll use the labeled information to answer six multiple choice questions about American expansion. Doing the worksheet will also reinforce students’ knowledge of history by letting them clearly view the changes in growth of the United States. The second page is the answer key.
