For my students who have difficulty with some of the basics of conversations, including just the correct physical "set up" to start, I do some very concrete teaching. We first talk about our bodies and the correct positioning of being turned toward the speaker and also when you are a listener. We teach getting someone's specific attention when making a statement by beginning with saying their name. And finally we talk about the use of "starters" ... these are quick and easy statements that not only gain attention and interest but allow us to make a topic change. We show plenty of examples of each and our images allow for great teaching of each individual skill.
