Have students look at the word in bold in the left column. Then they skim across the words in that row and circle the same word which will appear once or twice. After this, the students move to the next row. Giving a time limit for numbers 3-10 will help push the students as they go through the activities.
DO NOT compare students with one another. Have them work against the clock. After they have completed 2 activities, note their average time and then reduce the time by 5 - 10 seconds for the next 2 activities.
This exercise, when done over a series of days and combined with Skim and Scan activities, will help develop the student's ability to pick out specific words in a text.
