This is a springtime lesson to get students up and moving while practicing skip-counting or multiplication facts. Students hold groups of jellybeans and then move around the room to practice multiplying groups of jellybeans. They start with groups of two, and build up to groups of ten. At the end of the lesson students each get to take home a bag of ten jellybeans with a colorful tag wishing them a happy spring!
This product contains two different versions of the same lesson plan: Jellybean Skip-Counting for second grade, and Jellybean Multiplication for third grade (and the corresponding Common Core Math standards). They are designed so you will be able to pick and choose which parts are applicable to your class, whether your students are working on skip-counting, exploring multiplication, practicing memorizing multiplication facts, or anywhere in between. Feel free to adjust the lesson however you need for your class.
This lesson includes 5 different versions of tags you can include with the bags of jellybeans for your students. The tags say:
-"Have a great spring break!"
-"Wishing you a sweet spring break!"
-"It's so sweet to have you in my class!"
-"Happy Easter!" (also available in the free version)
Use the spring break tags if you're doing this fun activity on the last day of school before spring break. Use the "Happy spring!" tag if you're doing this activity at another time that doesn't coincide with spring break. Use "It's so sweet to have you in my class!" any time of the year! (Jellybeans are delicious even when it's not spring!)
The lesson, without the tags, is available here: Skip-Counting and Multiplying with Jellybeans Lesson Plan
