This activity provides practice skip counting by even 2’s. Students will generate the first, middle or last number in a sequence of 3 numbers. Following the rules of popular Top-It (War) card games, students need little or no instruction on how to play, and they will love the cute bug graphics .
To prepare the game simply print out the 50 game cards and number line. Laminate for durability. Cut apart the cards. Cut the two rows of number strips apart and assemble into a number line.
To play (2 players): Shuffle the cards and divide evenly among players in face down stacks. At the same time, both players flip over their top card and determine the missing number. Players look at each others cards to determine if their opponent’s answer is correct, referring to the number line if needed. The player with the greatest missing number takes both cards and places them in a separate pile from their un-played cards. In the event of a tie, each player flips over another card. The player with the greatest missing number takes all 4 cards. When all cards in the facedown stacks have been used, each player counts the cards they have won. The player with the most cards is the winner.
