There's a sure fire way of getting your students attention in Mathematics and that's through candy! I wanted a fun activity for my class of sweet tooths and I wanted to teach them about the four measures of central tendency - mean, mode, median and range!

Each group was given a packet of Skittles and then reported back to the class with how many of each colour they had. Once all Skittles were counted, discussion focused on each measure of central tendency and how to calculate them.

This Skittles investigation sheet allowed students to record each group's data and calculate each group's mean, median, mode and range.

This was a fun activity which enabled me to reinforce these key concepts introduced at the start of the week with an M and M Investigation which also focussed on mean, mode, median and range! The students loved this investigation and could not believe their luck with yet another candy investigation! They did a fabulous job on their end of week quiz too!
