Originally I used Smarties for this activity but since chocolate Smarties are only found in Canada I wanted to make it into something that could be used more in more places so I changed the candy to Skittles original.
Prior to this assignment students should have an understanding of what theoretical and experimental probability are. They should also know how to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to percents. I have included an anchor chart for both in case it is needed.
I’ve also included an option to do a whole class assignment at the end of the assignment.
You can have students either work on their own, pairs or small groups. Each will need a bag of Skittles. You will also need to either have a plastic bag or paper bag for each student/group.
