Product Description
Using a Fun Size Skittles Bag, students will make predictions as to the number of colors in each bag. They will then record the actual number of skittles of each color in the bag and convert those numbers into a fraction, decimal, and a percent. Using the class data, students will record the number of purple Skittles in each of their classmates' bags. They will use this data to find the mean, median, and mode, create a histogram, a dot plot (line plot), and box plot (box and whisker plot), find the interquartile range (IQR) and the mean absolute deviation (MAD), and describe the spread of the data. Finally, students will make a prediction, based on all their data, as to how many purple Skittles they would expect to find if they opened a new bag of Fun Size Skittles. This project is great as a on-going project to complete as each section of the 6th grade statistics unit is taught or as a final project at the end of the unit. A 20 point rubric is included to allow for quick and easy grading.
