This is a short activity that I use with phonics or dyslexia groups to practice reading one-syllable "ng" and "nk" words. It is a short activity to liven up your lesson. Since the "n" is a nasal sound, the vowel doesn't make the vowel sound you expect in a closed syllable.
The file contains:
Page 1 - Cover Page with Directions
Page 2 - 8 - Word Cards
Be sure to run 2 copies of the Skunk cards and take out the last 8 cards if your students have not studied consonant blends.
The first student reads the cards until they get a "Skunk!" card. Play then passes to the next student. They read until they get a "Skunk" card and so on. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
