This file includes activities for different learning levels in the study of three myths: “Sky Tree,” “How the World Was Made,” and “How the Leopard Got Its Claws” from the Glencoe American Literature to 1900 edition published in 2009. For struggling readers there are guided reading sheets to aid comprehension. For more advanced learners, there are other activities including cartoons, quizzes, venn diagrams, and myth and essay writing. To introduce the concept of symbolism, I’ve included a personality test called the Dalai Llama Personality Test. It is a neat tool to help students understand symbolism in their own lives. There is also a copy of the Native American Zodiac to introduce the concept of animals as symbols. This can be used to help students prepare for identifying animals as symbols in “Sky Tree” and “How the Leopard Got Its Claws.” They are also good for engagement at the beginning of the lesson.
Thanks for looking and Happy Reading. Penny Wood
