PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

"What is a Code?" includes classroom and individual activities, handouts for discussion, writing prompts, and suggestions for extended learning about the role of codes in history, literature and everyday life. Teachers can use a classroom novel involving code as part of the plot (such as "The Wanderer," by Sharon Creech, or "S.O.S. Titanic," by Eve Bunting) or excerpt a suggested text for discussion. Handouts and activities may also function as a stand-alone unit. This unit was taught in a 5th-grade ELA classroom, but could be adapted for older grades or as a Social Studies unit.
