Students love playing the SLAP games!
*I either place the kids in groups of three or four or let them choose their own partners.
*Group together one desk and one chair for each group of students.
*One student from each group gets the chair first and the partners stand behind/around the student playing first.
*Place as many cards as you’d like on the desktops to start and add new cards as needed.
*The students playing the first round place their hands on the edge of the desk.
*I discreetly scan the cards and state the first of three definitions for this round.
*The first student to touch the word that matches the definition gets to keep it for their group.
*I then go onto the 2nd definition, then the third, each time with the students placing their hands on the edge of the table.
*The students then switch seats with the next person in each of their groups and we continue playing just like the first round – hands on the edge of the desk and we go through three definitions.
*If we’re down to the last 5 or 6 cards, I then tell the kids I might call out definitions that may or may not have a match (they love this part). If they mistakenly touch the wrong card, then that group is done and can start counting their cards to determine the winning group.
