Fun way to compete, read maps, and review of state geography for middle school or elementary.

This resource includes 30 PowerPoint slides asking students to compete in "slapping" the location of various cities and geographic features in and around the state. This state "slapping" activity can be used as a follow-up lesson to the state "mapping" activity, or it can be used as its own stand-alone activity.

Perfect for any smart-board, pull-down screen, or large projected image on a wall or whiteboard. One mouse click brings up a question, another click reveals the answer, and a third click makes the question go away. 30 questions in all. Rules for playing are included. Enjoy!

Suggestions for playing:

Split the class into two or more even teams & pick a scorekeeper (questions 1-10 are worth 1 point each, 11-20 are worth 2 points each, and 21-30 are worth three points each)
Call up a student from each team to compete simultaneously
They can use unused fly-swatters, yardsticks, or their hands to slap the answer
One mouse click brings up a question, another click reveals the answer, and a third click makes the question go away
The competing students read the question and attempt to slap the location of the answer
The first student to answer correctly gets the point for their team and remains to compete in the next round against new students
If a student goes on a win streak of three, their turn is over
A student who slaps everywhere to assure they get the right answer is disqualified
If a student’s slap is close, it is up to the teacher to decide
The team with the most points by the end of the game wins!
