This webquest allows students to learn about slavery and the emancipation of slaves in the British controlled areas of the Caribbean by exploring two websites created by the BBC. The websites are very student friendly and engaging.
The websites allow students to learn about the following key ideas related to British slavery and emancipation:
British Slavery in the Caribbean
The Failures of Emancipation and the Apprenticeship System
Compensation for British Slave Owners
Profits, Investments, and Impact of Caribbean Slavery
The webquest contains 36 questions and an answer key is included for the teacher. QR codes are included along with the traditional website links. This activity is great as an introduction, more depth, or a review activity for students. The webquest will take most students at least 20 to 40 minutes to complete depending on age. Feel free to modify this activity if needed to fit the needs of your students.
