The Federal Writer's Project was developed in the 1930s to help create jobs in the United States. One aspect of this project was to interview former slaves to record their experiences.
Your students will read excerpts from four of these interviews. They are written in their own words and recorded just as they were in the 30s. They are heart-felt, gut-wrenching memoirs of US history.
Students will answer questions after each reading. Rich discussion may also ensue!
Although answers to the questions will vary based on a student's interpretation, I have included an answer document to assist you.
Thanks for stopping by!
