Product Description
I do this lesson in February for black history month. It covers topics such as: slavery, the Civil War, the KKK, segregation, Emmett Till, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and civil disobedience. This is by far my most mature themed lesson. I would only teach it to high school or adult students, and you may want to consider running it by your co-teacher or FAO before doing anything at all. Some of the film clips are quite graphic, but I feel they are necessary. I have no tolerance for this, “slaves were really just part of the family” idiocy that seems to be making a comeback lately. My country has a long and shameful history of racial injustices and atrocities, and I feel that it should be acknowledged and learned from instead of white-washed (Looking at you, Texas!). Anyway, if you found this lesson useful, be sure to check out some of the others at ESL In Asia. Good luck!
