Sleepy Hollow is the perfect short story to read with your students in the fall (or any time)! It's spooky eerie and pulls students into the story with hilarious moments and larger than life characters.
This unit includes two versions of a modified Sleepy Hollow Text. While simplified, they retain the charm of Washington Irving's original text. One version is an upper 6th grade level, the other is an upper 5th grade level. I use both in my 6th grade classes to appropriately challenge my students. The grade levels were found using readability-score.com.
This unit includes:
- Leveled copies of the texts, organized into 5 parts.
- Accompanying textual questions and vocabulary work.
- Predictions sheet on predicting the end of Sleepy Hollow
- Rough draft papers
- Rubric (adapted from Smarter Balanced rubrics)
