This slideshow includes 18 slides- The first 2 slides include the Common Core standards for K-3 that are addressed. The 3rd slide shows a few teaching notes from me. The slideshow is definitely geared towards more 2nd- 3rd grade though it does fit some of the Language standards for K-1 so I included those. The rest of the slides include notes and activities for the students to complete. I enjoy using activities where I don’t have to copy a bunch of worksheets and where the activities are authentic. With that in mind, there are many opportunities for student involvement in this Powerpoint, though I purposely did not create worksheets to go with them. Lots of open ended activities from writing powerful 2 word sentences to beginning sentences with prepositions. I like the flexibility of referring to the students’ learning logs or writer’s notebooks.
I used this Slideshow over the course of 3 weeks with my 2nd graders. It served as a guide for a daily mini-lesson on the structure of a sentence with room to extend the concepts or to break down the concepts. The pace is flexible and the activities are easy to incorporate with things your students use on a daily basis: clipboards, notebooks, learning logs, partners, book bins.
Be sure to read and use the notes section at the bottom of the slides to help guide your teaching. Various examples and additional teaching ideas are posted there.
I hope you enjoy the slideshow! Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving it! Thanks so much!
