This short investigation will dive students into slope in a conceptual way before they begin to calculate it using traditional methods (rise over run, change in y divided by change in x). Print this activity double sided and cut in the middle for double sided half sheets! You will need protractors to use this activity effectively. This activity is meant to be done as a class to PROVE to students that we cannot always use angles when we describe how steep a line is. This activity provides a platform for a beneficial discussion on why we describe slope the way we do, and how useful it is. After going through this activity, students will be more conceptually ready to understand slope and what it really means. All of my resources are Word Documents to make them easily customize-able for your unique needs.
