In this inquiry based, discovery activity students examine the coordinates of two points on a line and then answer questions about how to relate those numbers to the rise and run of the slope. The goal of this activity is for students to observe that the slope formula comes from subtracting the ordered pairs. Students construct their own meaning and understanding, and will be making observations and answering critical thinking questions that will help them to make sense of the slope formula.
This download also includes a graphic organizer style notes page that includes 8 examples of the 4 different types of slopes (positive, negative, zero and undefined).
