Product Description

Students observe real world relations (which are their “patients”) and determine slopes as slope doctors! They determine the type (positive, negative, zero, or undefined), give the exact slope by finding the change in y over the change in x, and diagnose, or explain the real world meaning.

Some examples are simple, and some are challenging. This activity is sure to engage students in working with different kinds of slopes.

Idea for Implementation:

Doctors (students) visit each slope and fill out their reports individually. Then doctors meet as a group to discuss and agree on the diagnosis!

Each slope is provided in PDF format and in a PowerPoint. The PDF can be printed so that slopes are spread around the room or handed to groups. Or, the PowerPoint can be used to display each slope on the board. The 12 slopes are the same in both formats.

Answer keys are included at the end.
