Small computer lab research activity that allows students to discover ways that cities help to slow down or prevent erosion in earth science. The job of the students is to propose an erosion action plan for their home town to local city board members. Students will have to explain positive and negative aspects for each suggested solution, keeping in mind cost, safety, reliability, aesthetics, and to consider social, cultural, and environmental impacts. Can easily be modified for all learners. Students really enjoyed this activity and directly connected to the content because they could see the issues right in their back yard! Rubric included.
