Product Description
When my writing students struggle to slow down the action in their stories, I enjoy playing this game with them. First I give them a "fast" scene -- one that is contained in one sentence and can be read in fewer than 5 seconds. Then I break my class into teams and have my students imagine that this scene is the climax of a story. They then use imagery, dialogue, and other techniques to slow down the clock and draw the reader into the story. After a set amount of time (usually a few minutes), the slower scenes are read aloud, and the students vote on which one feels the "slowest" as we discuss what makes a scene feel fast or slow.
