Bow Distribution Slurs Slurred Staccato Hooked Dotted Rhythms
This handout is extremely visually appealing for students of all ages in terms of understanding bow distribution and our basic to intermediate rhythms. I teach young string players and to have them fully understand the concept of bow distribution is a difficult! But, using this handout, students can actually see how much bow is necessary for both our basic rhythms and our unequal proportioned rhythms, such as dotted-8th 16th notes.
This lesson can be related to our Common Core Math because you are relating the bow to fractions. Students also have to understand the subdivisions of our beats, such as 16ths and 8th notes, and be able to relate that to dividing our bow in equal and unequal parts.
Using the bow as a visual has changed how my students execute bow distribution. They demonstrate more bow control, rhythmic comprehension and first-hand said that these handouts have been extremely helpful! Enjoy!!!! If you have questions or concerns, please message me. If you enjoy the handout, definitely leave positive feedback! Thank you!!!
