This printable book will help guide children through the small moments writing process.
When cut and assembled, the book includes 8 pages.
- Cover page
- A page to record the 'Big watermelon moment' and the 'Small slice moments' from that event. This graphic organizer is the first step for helping students decide what to zoom in and write about.
- Students select a 'Small slice moment' from the previous page and use this page to plan 3 'Tiny seed details' about that small moment.
- 4 pages for recording their story; a space for illustration and 3 writing lines.
- A simple student self reflection page.
Note: There is an alternative for the first two pages if you would like children to have the option to draw instead of writing their brainstorm.
Also included are A4 planning sheets as an alternative to the mini book. There are different options for the number of ideas you would like children to brainstorm at each stage.
I hope you can use this with your students to help them develop as writers, narrow their focus and to include detail in their personal narrative writing.
Also included are posters for display in your writing area. One set includes only illustrations of "Big watermelon ideas', 'Small slice moments' and 'Tiny seed details'. The other set has a simple example of what each means.
