This is a complete novel study for the recent children’s novel, Raymie Nightingale, by Katie DiCamillo.
This is the story of young girl named Raymie Clarke, who is dealing with the recent separation of her mother and father. Her father runs off with a dental hygienist, and Raymie has a plan to bring him back home: win the Little Miss Central Florida Tire contest.
She befriends two other girls, Beverly Tapinski and Louisiana Elephante, who are both attending a baton twirling class. Raymie wants to learn how to twirl baton to win the contest.
Throughout the book, Raymie learns about love, loss, relationships, and the transformative power of friendship. There are parts of the book that will tug at the heartstrings of students (especially if you have students who come from broken households.
