These 17 smart board exercises are great for students to self-teach themselves about Reconstruction. It focuses on the different South Carolinians effected during Reconstruction and their economic situations. It touches on sharecroppers, KKK, redeemers, scalawags and more. It addresses the majority of SC History standard 8-5.2.
While working on this activity, students will complete Venn Diagrams, match images to names, describe images, write, read, test themselves, use key vocabulary, arrange sentences to form a paragraph and more. This was created to maximize the functions of a smart board and the smart board activities that are available within the software.
This is recommended as an activity that 2-3 students would complete alone. It can be done as a whole class, but it is much more effective when students are working in small groups alone at the board. This definitely increases the fun and rigor of the activity.
Again, it can be done as a whole class, but it is not designed for that.
Although this was created directly for South Carolina's 8-5.2 Standard, this would work with any class that is studying Reconstruction.
