A supplemental piece to go along with the poem Smart by Shel Silverstein. This is one of my favorite poems to introduce money to students. For this activity students will already need to have an understanding of the value of each coin. Student will determine whether or not they believe the choice by the boy in the poem was smart or not. They will then go through the poem as he trades his money to determine the value of what he started with and the value he has at the end of each trade. Students will then explain why they believe the boy's father should or should not be proud of his trades.
