Statistical Investigations Using M & Ms
This exciting 23 slide Smartboard unit includes a student journal (PDF attachment) to record their observations during the statistical investigations using M&Ms. Teachers must provide each student a package of M&Ms (I used the small Halloween packages) in order to complete this project. Definition and discussion slides are included. Students learn graphing, median, mode and range as well as other related vocabulary. Interactive lessons include recording individual and class data on the whiteboard, creating a class line plot, ordering the steps in a statistical investigation, vocabulary matching, and a Senteo quiz at the end of the unit which can be used as class discussion for those without Senteo. 23 Slides are included in this unit + 10 Senteo questions.
This unit was designed for a fourth grade, average ability class. It may also be appropriate for 3rd and 5th grade classes.
