PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The film Smoke Signals makes an excellent companion piece when reading the novel Pigs In Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver or selected stories by Sherman Alexie (on which the film is based). It can be part of any Native American culture unit.

These 8, detailed short answer questions guide students through an understanding of Coeur d'Alene native culture and related issues while helping them to understand the larger human issues that connect all cultures.

The assignment carries a grade so that students will observe, interpret and respond to their best ability.

The film is 90 minutes long, so with some discussion and extra time for students to fill out responses, it takes nearly three, 40-minute class periods.
