What a fun way for your students to practice learning words with blends! This pack includes 2 leveled games, word sorting mats, and a writing craftivity to meet the needs of your students in your classroom. (Level 1 = words with initial blends and Level 2 = more challenging words with initial blends) Students may play as a teacher directed guided reading group activity, literacy station activity, or partner activity. At the bottom of each direction card is a list of suggested extension activities to choose from. Here is a list of all the games and activities in this pack:
Let’s Sort S’more! Sorting Mats: These sorting mats and activity sheets can be used for both the Level 1 and Level 2 word cards! There are 3 different sorting mat styles and independent practice activities to choose from!
• Choose the corresponding sorting mats, word cards, and independent practice page you will need for this activity. Place the four sorting mats next to each other on the table. Place all of the cards face down in a stack or spread out on the table. Each student will take turns choosing a card and then read it out loud. He or she will then sort the card by placing it on the correct word sorting mat. Whoever reads the most words and sorts them correctly at the end of the game is the winner! Choose an extension activity from the bottom of the direction card to add an extra challenge!
• Independent Practice: Word Sort Activity Page (3 styles to choose from!)
Give Me S’more! Initial Blends Word Game: 2 Leveled Games to Choose From! (Level 1 = words with initial blends and Level 2 = more challenging words with initial blends)
• Students take turns reading the words on the card. If they read the word correctly they get to keep the card. If a student picks up a “fun” card, he or she will follow the directions on the card. Choose an extension activity from the bottom of the direction card to add an extra challenge! Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!
Let’s Write S’more! Writing Craftivity: 3 Leveled Lined Papers and Writing Activity Ideas to Choose From!
• Students write sentences or a story on the lined paper. They may choose from the ideas on the direction card or create their own topic. They will then color, cut out, and attach the S’more pattern to the top of their story. Display them in your classroom!
