As intro to systems of equations, we complete the interactive note sheets together as a class looking for the “break-even” point for the two different gym scenarios. Students are introduced to finding the solution through a table, graph and by setting the equations equal to each other.
The follow-up practice is the group activity. Students are put in groups of three. They are given the same scenarios, but each group member solves each a different way. Group members then compare answers to be sure they agree. By completing all 3 scenarios, each group member practices solving the system each different way. The scenarios in the activity are about SnapChat Streaks, Cell Data Used and Miles driven.
