This is a great end of the year activity that allows your students to reflect on their year. I like to start as a whole group and brainstorm all of the things we did as a class. (ex. Field Trips, Parties, Talent Show, Spelling Bee, etc.) This can be done as a list, diagram, etc. The goal is to try to come up with as many events as you have students.
After we have made our list, I have kids pick which event they would like to be in charge of representing. Once they all have their event from the year, they are able to pick either a polaroid or film strip and creatively display this event.
Then students can write a short synopsis describing that event. Finally I have them cut out both their picture and their writing and glue it on a piece of construction paper.
I teach 5th grade and we have our kids do this for the incoming 5th graders. We hang these in the halls so that as kids are coming in to see their new rooms, they can also read about what they have to look forward to as well.
