Product Description
Equivalent expressions sure can be tricky sometimes! They disguise themselves as another expression, but it turns out that many of them are the same!

This product gives your students an opportunity to hunt down those sneaky little guys and decide which expression they are the same as. There are 84 expressions in this set (12 sets of 6 equivalent expressions + 1 base expression for each set), and you can use as many or few sets at a time!

Now includes a version with the written expression to practice translating algebraic expressions!

This product is included in the Equivalent Expressions Bundle. If you already own the bundle, please DO NOT purchase this!

What do I get in this download?
*84 expressions (12 BASE expressions and 12 sets of 6 equivalent expressions)
*student response pages
*answer key
*large posters of each BASE expression
*interactive notebook page with accompanying text of what I have my students write (how to find equivalent expressions)

HOW IT WORKS IN MY ROOM
In my classroom, I use this first as a scavenger hunt. I put my students into 6 groups and cut apart 6 sets of equivalent expressions. I like to schedule the gym and scatter them all around, though a hallway works great, too! Students are given their response sheet with a "base" expression and as a team, they have to find all 6 expressions that are the same as their base. It's a great way to get kids talking and solving, and they also have to filter out the "not equal" expressions from other groups. Sometimes I have a prize, but bragging rights are usually the best prize anyway!

The second stage is to use this as a sort. Using the other 6 expressions, I deal out the expressions among my students. Then, I post the large BASE expressions around the room! Students tape the equivalent expressions on their respective posters. I like to let kids work in partners or small groups if needed as well.

This can be a great formative assessment, an exit ticket, group work, center work, small group lesson, grade level challenge, reteach group, enrichment activity, and so much more!
