Students who live in cold climates often love to build snowmen and snowwomen, and they also enjoy making pictures of their snow sculptures. The Snow People Collage art activity is perfect to teach during the cold, snowy winter months.
This downloadable zip file includes a 2 page PDF lesson plan that connects this art project to the National Core Arts Standards. Additionally, the “Snow Person Collage” PowerPoint is a complete step-by-step demonstration. This comprehensive tutorial includes 101 slides. The slides contain photographs of the craft in progress along with explanatory text. This art making assignment is very easy to teach and is perfect for any busy teacher who wants a prepared winter lesson plan and demonstration. The demonstration will show students how to successfully turn squares of paper into circles, how to assemble the circles, how to draw the details of the snowman or snowwoman, and how to color in the winter scene. This lesson is better than a typical craftivity because it is low-teacher prep (absolutely no copying involved), the students do all the work, every project looks a little different, and student success rate is high.
Use this lesson and activity to create a fun winter bulletin board or hallway display. Tie this project in with a blizzard or snowstorm unit, or use it as a holiday-neutral Christmas alternative. It would also be fun to teach this activity after reading Snowmen at Night.
