"Snowball Battle" is an activity giving students practice combining sounds and syllables to make closed syllable words. This activity can be difficult for some readers at first. If so, do a practice session with the students before playing the game.

Each student needs one of the Snowball Battle games and a scorecard. This can also be played in pairs, using one game board, but each having their own scorecard.
Review the sounds/syllables with the students.
Each student writes as many words as they can using the sounds/syllables on their game board. You can use a timer if needed.
The student with the most words at the end is the winner. Only real words count!
Happy Snowball Battle!
