Snowball Fight! A Winter Card game of Comparing Fractions
This will be the most fraction fun your students will have this season! This card game works on comparing fractions with denominators of 2,3,4,5,6 and 1 whole.
How to play:
This is a game for 2-3 people.
Place the deck of cards, shuffled, face down.
Each player takes a card off the top of the deck.
On the count of 3, flip the card over. The player with the largest fraction wins that round of cards. Students should share their reasoning with the group and justify all answers.
Continue playing until there are no more cards in the deck, or until time runs out.
Watch out for the snowball cards! You’ll automatically lose the round and have an added punishment!
The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins!
-Play for the smallest fraction instead of the largest.
-The snowball cards are optional. Add in the ones you like, print more to mix into the deck, or don’t use them at all.
-On your turn, state an addition fact with your fraction card that will equal 1 whole. ( Ex: my card is 1/3, so I will say 1/3 + 2/3= 1 whole).
-On your turn, state an addition or subtraction equation that equals the fraction on your card ( Ex: my card is 4/5, so I might say 1/5 + 3/5= 4/5, or 5/5-1/5=4/5.
-On your turn, state an equivalent fraction.
