What better way to get excited about the holiday season that start a snowball fight in the classroom?! This snowball writing activity encourages students to think creatively and work together with their classmates. For those in the lower grades, it can also help encourage reading/spelling practice.
To play, the students all start out with a writing prompt (I included two pages of samples that I used in my class). After writing that prompt at the top of their paper, they write a couple sentences to start out the story. They then crumple up their paper and throw it to the front of the room. Once there are a few snowballs lying around, they can run and grab a new one. They open up the new snowball, read the new storyline and continue the story in whatever direction they want to take it. After doing this a few times, they can come together and share their stories with the class. From my experience, they end up being rather amusing. The kids love it!
Included is the Snowball writing worksheet and two pages of writing prompts (7 per page).
