Is there any cutting activity more fun than snipping a paper snowflake?

Teacher Comment:

"My first graders loved this. We did this two weeks ago and they're still asking me to make snowflakes during free time. Thank you. Amazing resource."

My Y5s absolutely LOVE making them, as there seems something almost magical about gently unfolding their creation, to reveal a lovely lacy snowflake!

Teacher Comments: "These turned out so cute! I loved seeing my students' faces when they were done with their snowflake and each was super unique."

"By far one of the most fun winter projects I have done with my students. I especially love when they open up their shape and see the finished snowflake."

With that in mind, I designed Snippy, the Shapely Snowflake Snowman, as a super-fun way to practice and review 2D shapes.

Although they look pretty awesome, they are no more difficult than cutting a regular paper snowflake. If your students are like mine, they will beg to make "another one!"

Teacher Comment: "I thought this was going to be a complicated activity for the hallway bulletin board, but it was actually very easy and they loved it!"

The "shapely" snowflake becomes Snippy's body.

The hatband states the name of the shape.

Completed snowmen make an absolutely adorable bulletin board or hallway display. We always get tons of compliments on our hallway display, which builds my students' self-esteem.

They are so proud of their work, often pointing out their snowman as we pass by.

Teacher Comments: "My students loved this! We put them on a bulletin board in the hallway. It was a big hit!"

"These are so fun and made for a super cute winter hallway work display!"

This snowman craft appeals to a variety of ages & grade levels:

Teacher Comments: "This was a great resource for easy snowflakes that kindergartners can make. Love it!"

"I loved everything about this activity!!! The snowman turned out great and my 2nd graders loved it!!!"

"My 3rd graders loved this activity! It looks great hanging from the ceiling."

Even if you choose not to do this as a whole-group, listening and following directions craftivity, make a set for a lovely "Winter Wonderland Wall", to use for a shape review.

The packet includes step-by step directions, patterns and photographs of the folded steps, plus pictures of the completed projects, along with a pattern for the boots, mittens & hat if you want to add them.

Teacher Comment: "My class loved doing this activity, and they all came out so beautiful. None of my class had ever made a paper snowflake before!! I couldn't believe it. So they were mesmerized by the process! It made a lovely winter display and the children added all kinds of crazy accessories to their snowmen."

I'm Diane from Teach With Me, wishing you a blizzard of fun as you snip snip away. The results are truly amazing!
